Mixed media on Bockingford

Tissue paper was stuck to the paper with pva glue to create the texture in the walls and paving stones. When it was dry, acrylic ink was poured on to create the background colour which dried as flat colour on the bare paper but mingled and merged over the textured paper forming the stonework without any need for extra painting to be applied in that area. Acrylic paint was then painted over the top to form the archway and distant courtyard behind but very little brushwork was needed, most of the paint was applied with a piece of thick card. A lot of the fine detail was applied with the end of a fine stick. The figures were added to give a focal point and interest to the painting - but its up to the viewer to decide the character of the couple and the subject of their conversation.
