Gathering forceIn Private collection 13 x 9 inches Storm clouds gather over the restless sea changing the light effects from day to night. A couple walk on the beach in the distance. The light is negative - darkness where there should be light. The sky and sea are dark where they would normally be light, and the beach is pale in contrast, as the dark storm clouds create an eerie light over the landscape. The pour on paint technique was the basis for this painting with careful attention to leave the beach area virtually untouched whilst attempting to create the darkest tones possible for the sea and sky. The yellow ochre of the beach is reflected in the stormy clouds overhead. Watercolour and gouache create the colour while texture medium and salt crystals create the movement and texture in the paint surface. The pour on paint technique has created spontaneous lighting effects in the form of the clouds. There is a lot of movement and interest in the dramatic content of the clouds. The lost and found edges at the horizon give the impression of a huge storm coming.
