An erotic painting of a woman lying relaxed on a sofa lit by a small lamp next to her, using a limited palette of reds, creams, gold and purple. This was painted by first covering the whole of the board in bright scarlet paint, thereby making the mid tones instantly and giving the whole picture a strong vibrancy and adding to the passion of the subject matter at the very beginning of creating the painting. After that the pale creams of the lamp and the womans body were painted as the lamp illuminated her body from the side. These are the lightest tones and create the high-lights. The next stage was to pick out the purply darks to add interest and depth to the painting, and to pick out the fainter colours and form of the sofa the woman is lying on. The sofa also had washes of gold brushed over it to add a luxurious feel to the painting. I know I could easily have called this painting lady in red but I desisted from that decision!

And the woman is depicted in a relaxed position, as if she’s waiting for her lover to appear at any moment........
