Tiger BrightIn Private collection

12 x 8 inches
Watercolour and gouache on Bockingford

This is a painting about majesty and power and animal pride utilising the dramatic colours of the jungle beast. The bold colours of black and white contrast nicely on the sienna and ochre. The movement of life in the animal is portrayed by the splatter of the paint which creates a speckled effect and takes away the rigidity of stark colours making the painting more interesting to view and lively because of it. The pour on paint technique creates a freedom in the paint and movement in the background colours and then when the tiger is painted on top on the background, it is more at one with it, not separate and static.  There is more fluidity with the paint and with the subject in its setting.
